I understand that winding up an SMSF must conform to the ATO requirements which means lodging of a final tax return and final audit, once all assets and liabilities are reduced to a zero balance. I understand a final taxation return may not be able to be completed immediately. Final tax statements from providers may be required to complete the return. Any assets not expected to produce a return can only be written off after official correspondence from the company in question is received.
