The latest ATO statistics report on SMSFs ending June 2015 have confirmed that LRBAs (borrowing arrangements in Super) are worth approximately $15.6 Billion.  That sounds like a  large number and it is, but to put it in perspective it only represents 3% of total assets held by SMSFs.  This may be why the Government has chosen not to change the rules on borrowing inside of Superannuation in its latest announcements.

Total numbers of SMSFs have grown to more than 557,000 with assets worth $590 Billion.  This means that total combined assets have increased 6% since June 2014.

This is the second year that the ATO has been able to produce data by collecting it through taxation return labels.  The ATO will be able to inform government and department officials through the data that they collect if there any significant issues in the SMSF sphere.
